We also serve students in transition between colleges or majors. The DGS student body comprises approximately 3,300 students—or nearly 11 percent of all Illinois undergraduates.

1,239 Reasons Summer Has Been Good

Summer is a busy place around the Division of General Studies. As the most popular unit for incoming freshmen, DGS saw 1,239 new students this summer. Our academic advisors spent all of June and part of July helping the class of 2012 register for fall classes, explore campus, and get used to the idea of being college students.

Farewell to an Advisor


Nearly two years ago, academic advisor Chris Maier joined the DGS ranks—this was back when we were called General Curriculum. Chris is moving on to Washington, D.C., where he’ll be working in the communications field. Best of luck from all of us here at DGS.

Advisor of the Semester Named

At the end of each semester, DGS students complete surveys that determine the winner of our division’s Advisor of the Semester award. We’re pleased to announce that Carrie Mulvaney has been named the spring 2008 Advisor of the Semester. This is the third time that Carrie, who’s been with DGS since 2000, has won the award.
